An “award-winning” eatery has opened in the heart of Watford, taking up residence inside a nightclub.

Papa Ji has opened inside the Canvas Bar & Nightclub, offering Asian fusion cuisine.

The new venture represents a first step into Hertfordshire for the outlet, which already has a site in Enfield, London, as well as a food truck which travels up and down the country.

Located in The Parade, the opening comes as part of a collaboration between the two businesses.

Vikki Aitchison, general manager of Canvas, said: “The food is award-winning and the restaurant’s ambience is relaxed and luxury.

“The collaboration with Papa Ji enables us to extend our offering with brunch parties and shows. For those wishing to continue to party the night away, they can do so in our bar and nightclub with our international resident DJs.”

She added: “This is part of our venue’s exciting journey and there’s plenty more yet to come to the community and wider area.”

The menu includes paneer poppers and “fish that melts in your mouth”, promising to offer different flavours that suit all palettes.

Papa Ji opened last week and is open Thursday to Sunday, with opening hours varying by the day.

Food can also be ordered on Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat.
